Hewlett Packard Enterprise to buy Juniper Networks in $14 bln deal

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE.N) will buy networking gear maker Juniper Networks (JNPR.N) for $14 billion in an all-cash deal, in an attempt to spruce up the companyโ€™s artificial intelligence (AI) offerings. HPE offered $40 per share to Juniper shareholders, the companies said on Tuesday. That represents a 32.4% premium to the stockโ€™s close on Monday, when the news of the deal first emerged.

A key part of the process it wanted to automate is server assembly quality assurance, which was being done manually by quality operators. This labor-intensive process is prone to error due to human eye fatigue and the inability of quality operators to catch critical defects.

This situation is hardly unusual. According to Kemal Levi, Founder and CEO of Relimetrics, there is โ€œa strong demand for computer vision to replace manual visual inspections. Yet, due to a high production variability, particularly in the case of discrete manufacturing, computer vision systems today are not able to keep up with the rate of change in configurations.โ€
