I’m very excited about all the updates being shared at Microsoft Inspire 2023, particularly about the announcement of the new AI Cloud Partner Program (MACPP) and the additional offerings and benefits this brings for partners. Under the MACPP, I’m thrilled to announce that we will be including manufacturing partner solutions through new independent software vendor (ISV) designations.

This designation represents our commitment to bringing the best partner solutions to our customers and provides a way for customers to identify proven partner solutions aligned with the Microsoft Cloud and our industry clouds. The designation validates that our partners’ solutions meet the high standards of data accessibility specific to the manufacturing industry.

How Rolls-Royce Scales Smart Factory Tech Worldwide

📅 Date:

🏢 Organizations: Rolls-Royce, PTC

Rolls-Royce began working with PTC to conduct multiple pilots at varying levels of complexity, hoping to discover technologies that could scale to up to a dozen different plants. Deciding which pilots to scale ultimately came down to the opinions of the early adopters.

Successfully implementing the technology at scale comes down to:

  • Vendors, business leadership and technology leadership aligning at the highest levels
  • Extended technology teams successfully explaining new implementations to management
  • Diverse left-brain/right-brain thinking to understand tech deployments holistically and fully engage user communities

Jayasekara says Rolls-Royce is ’ruthless’ when assessing the value of a smart factory technology, like ease and potential breadth of deployment. If the company has hundreds of a certain type of machine used across multiple plants, a smart factory upgrade can improve its performance, that obviously stands a greater chance of attracting funding compared to upgrades for a lesser-used machine.

Rolls-Royce achieves agile delivery by rolling PTC advisors, Rolls-Royce experts and managed service teams into “sprint teams“ that can change the scope of a deployment as they better understand the technology, rather than running smart factory deployments like traditional IT deployments with inflexible milestones.

From Drafter to Innovator: The Evolution of the Design Engineer

📅 Date:

✍️ Author: Robert Farrell

🔖 Topics: Simulation-led Design

🏢 Organizations: PTC, Ansys, American Axle

The seeds of modern design were sown in 1765 by Gaspard Monge. The French mathematician is widely credited as the founder of descriptive geometry and technical drawing.

Simulation-led design (SLD) is advancing innovation by empowering designers with the ability to explore many more design options without adding time or cost. SLD not only reduces costs but optimizes product performance and advances innovation by allowing designers to digitally explore substantially more product design iterations by asking “what if?” and getting the answers quickly. Furthermore, as these designs have been more thoroughly validated against the requirements, failures in the field are reduced, which of course reduces product recalls and warranty costs.

Log4j Security Vulnerability Response Center

📅 Date:

🔖 Topics: cybersecurity

🏢 Organizations: PTC

For remediation for Apache Log4j 2 CVE-2021-44228 and CVE 2021-45046, PTC recommends removing the JNDILookup.class as described in the remediation from Apache. Throughout PTC’s testing to date (December 10 to December 15, 2021) there have been no adverse impacts from using this method. PTC has not used this dynamic loading capability in our products, and the remediation should be both effective to the vulnerability and very low risk to our products. Any risk of this change is limited in scope to the logging subsystem of applications, and any resulting errors are far less significant than the exposure of this vulnerability. Customers can preemptively remediate the vulnerability while awaiting official certification to reduce their immediate exposure to this critical issue.
